What is the best Topcoat?
Looking for the magic Topcoat...?
I'm looking for a Topcoat that really stays shiny for weeks....
Do you hear this question so often in your nail salon?
We really want our clients' nails to stay shiny for weeks and we are always looking for that magic product that never dulls, never scratches and stays looking almost like a mirror.
But.... Do you think that product exists?
Are all Topcoats equally good?
It is true that some Topcoats are better that others. A hard top coat stays shiny longer than a flexible Topcoat, that's a fact.
But it is also true that even the best Topcoat in the world is not safe from scratching.
Let's see, why are some materials easier to scratch than others? The answer is very simple: some materials are harder than others.
Let's look at a few examples:
- Can you scratch a metal surface with a sponge or a cloth? The answer is no.
- Can you scratch a plastic surface with a metal tip? The answer is yes.
The same goes for a Topcoat!
Your client leaves your salon with a new set of nails, beautiful and shiny.... Two days later, you get a message from your client that she has several scratches on her nails.
You immediately think that the Topcoat is no good and that is why it no longer shines and you start looking for a new one, of a different brand that may never scratch and that whatever your client does it will remain intact as the first day.
Dear colleague, if you think this is the solution, you are going to waste a lot of time and money, because the magic top coat that doesn't scratch? It just doesn't exist.
Education is the solution!
So how do you provide nails without scratches?
If you want to solve the problem, we have to educate our clients and explain to them that they need to care for and protect their nails.
When we buy a new car, with a beautiful reflective paint job, we are all very attentive that it will not be scratched. I don't think anyone would scrub the car with a steel sponge, or even one of those little green sponges.
Why? Well of course the paint is going to scratch, and it's no different with your nails....
We have to advise our clients and explain to them that if they start cleaning without wearing gloves, their nails will be damaged.
Also, using aggressive products without gloves damages the top layer of your nails.
It's no secret that many of our clients use their nails as tools: to remove stains, open boxes, open cans and countless other activities that don't come to mind right now...And we expect our nails to shine forever? I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that's not going to happen!
The good news is that with proper care, we can prevent our nails from getting damaged too quickly.
How do you prevent scratches in artificial nails?
Well, so the magic Topcoat does not exist, but it is also true that not all products are of the same quality.
So first of all, make sure you use a good Topcoat from a good brand (No Wipe by Ugly Duckling is really good hihihihi).
Of course, after that, it is also important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and observe the drying times.
But most importantly, as I said before, explain to our clients the importance of wearing gloves and being careful in general. Explain to them that nails are not tools and they can scratch and break if we are not careful.
You will surely have noticed that most scratches are found in the part of the nail that is further away from the skin, that is, on the tip. You don't have to be a genius to know why this is so. You can show this to your clients so they understand :)
Well, I think the point is clear.
I think this article will help you and for those of you who don't lose hope of finding the magic top coat, I say keep looking and when you find it, let me know!
I'm pretty sure I won't receive a message....
With lots of love to you all,
